Division/Section: HAS Maintenance/General Maintenance Services – HOBBY Airport. Workdays & Hours: Varied (Shift work, including rotation, weekends, and holidays) subject to change. Purpose of Division The Houston Airport System (HAS) Maintenance, General Maintenance Services Business Unit provides self‑performed maintenance services at the three HAS airports. Purpose of the Position The Electrician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, managing, and upgrading electromechanical systems to ensure economical and safe electricity distribution. The role performs journeyman‑level electrical work on terminal and support building distribution equipment, lighting systems, and devices, following NEC, NFPA, and FAA Advisory Circulars. It acts as a first responder to emergency calls for electrical failures and shutdowns, manages airside and landside lighting across weathers, and may be assigned duties at IAH, HOU, and EFD. Responsibilities Interpret blueprints, sketches, schematics, and design specifications. Apply National Electrical Codes and use electrical tools, meters, and materials in a commercial setting. Work with high‑voltage (15 kV) primary distribution, emergency generators, control systems, preventative maintenance programs, UPS, and PLC. Troubleshoot, maintain, manage, and upgrade electromechanical, electrical, and electronic installations and systems. Research and analyze causes of failures and repair, replace, or install new equipment/components to maximize performance. Provide preventive maintenance to ensure safe and clean operating conditions. Prepare and update records, logs, and reports related to performed work. Respond to emergency calls for electrical failures and shutdowns. Organize, schedule, and monitor work assignments. Research technical product specifications and compare vendor pricing to determine the most competitive bid. Assist inventory control management of electrical parts and components. Work Environment The position involves physical exertion such as climbing ladders, lifting objects up to 80 pounds, and assuming awkward positions. Workers may be exposed to extreme temperatures, air and noise pollution, chemicals, and contagious diseases. Minimum Requirements Education High School diploma or GED certificate and successful completion of an approved apprentice electrician program or equivalent recognized by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board. Experience No journeyman‑level experience required. Certification/License A valid Texas state journeyman electrician license is required. A valid Texas driver’s license is also required; a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required. Preferences Journeyman Electrician License for 5+ years. Knowledge of airfield lighting materials and applications. Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Preferred eligibility for veteran applicants with the required qualifications.
