Museums & Historical Societies, Education & Programming, Historic Site Interpretation Hourly Rate Fischer Farm is believed to be one of the oldest remaining homesteads in the county. The Fischer family established their home around the year 1836. Through the years, they built barns and then a large farm house in 1919. The land just north of the cabin has been left untouched and is valued for its original seedbeds. This unchanged landscape is what settlers peered upon when they arrived in the area. Fischer Woods is a rare forest preserve with the remnants of prairie, wetland and woodland ecosystems. The mission of Fischer Farm is to engage the community in agricultural education, historical exploration and environmental conservation so that the past informs the future. The property has nine buildings, three of which are pre-Civil War era, including the Fischer clapboard cabin, circa 1837. The main museum space and farm shop are housed in the historic 1919 American foursquare farmhouse. The Museum Program Assistant is responsible for assisting with, and leading classes, programs, and tours.
