Job Description

Psychometric Rater – Michigan based

A Psychometric Rater (also known as Clinical Rater or Rater Specialist) is responsible for administering and scoring standardized psychological and neurocognitive assessments used in clinical trials. These ratings evaluate study participants’ mental status, cognitive function, mood, and behavior to ensure consistent and accurate data collection in compliance with study protocols, GCP, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and score clinical rating scales (e.g., MADRS, HAM-D, PANSS, YMRS, CDR-SB, ADAS-Cog, MoCA, MMSE, CGI, etc.) according to sponsor and protocol requirements.
  • Conduct structured or semi-structured clinical interviews with study participants under GCP and protocol guidelines.
  • Document all ratings and clinical observations accurately in source documents and electronic data capture systems (EDC).
  • Maintain rater certification and training compliance across all sponsor-required scales and assessments.
  • Collaborate with site investigators, coordinators, and other raters to ensure data reliability and inter-rater consistency.
  • Participate in inter-rater reliability exercises and ongoing calibration sessions to maintain consistency in scoring.
  • Prepare for and participate in sponsor monitoring visits, audits, and data quality reviews.
  • Protect participant confidentiality and ensure adherence to study protocol, ICH-GCP, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with subject screening and eligibility assessments using inclusion/exclusion criteria, as required.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Psychology, Neuroscience, Nursing, Social Work, or related field.
  • Advanced degree (MA, MS, PsyD, PhD, NP, or MD) preferred for complex psychiatric or cognitive studies.

Experience:

  • 1–3 years of clinical research experience preferred.
  • Prior experience administering structured clinical interviews (e.g., SCID, MINI, CDR) and psychometric scales is highly desirable.
  • Sponsor- or CRO-provided scale certification required; prior certifications (e.g., for PANSS, MADRS, HAM-D) are advantageous.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with participants.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
  • Ability to follow protocol-specific and regulatory procedures precisely.
  • Strong understanding of psychiatric and neurological symptomatology.
