Trade Compliance Manager

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Trade Compliance Manager to oversee compliance activities at a manufacturing facility located in the West Michigan region. This role requires a strong background in ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and EAR (Export Administration Regulations), with a focus on ensuring all trade compliance requirements are met. Responsibilities include managing international shipping processes, export/import documentation, licenses, exceptions, exemptions, internal audits, employee training, and maintaining internal compliance policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee trade compliance activities to ensure adherence to ITAR, EAR, and other applicable regulations.
  • Maintain and enforce internal trade compliance processes and policies in alignment with legal requirements.
  • Ensure proper documentation for international shipments (e.g., Commercial Invoices, EEI, AWB, export licenses, exemptions).
  • Conduct regular internal audits, identify risks, and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on trade compliance requirements and company policies.
  • Develop and update compliance procedures, controls, and best practices in coordination with leadership.
  • Review and approve export/import documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage and maintain export licenses, ensuring validity and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (logistics, shipping, legal, etc.) to ensure smooth international operations.
  • Ensure all required regulatory reporting and recordkeeping is accurate and timely.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and update processes accordingly.
  • Work overtime when necessary to meet project deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or Associate’s degree with 7+ years of trade compliance experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with ITAR and EAR regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of international shipping processes and related documentation.
  • Experience with internal audits and implementing corrective actions.
  • Skilled in developing and delivering compliance training.
  • Knowledge of export licensing, export classification, and U.S. Customs regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently or in a team setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and trade compliance software.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with the U.S. Department of State (ITAR) and Department of Commerce (EAR).
  • Knowledge of automated trade compliance systems and reporting platforms.
  • Familiarity with the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system.
