Job Description

Assists the medical staff and the hospital management in fulfilling their obligations to each other in their responsibilities to patients for the provision of quality care. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO)/Physician Executive (PE) works closely with the market president, medical staff and other physician leaders, including department and committee chairs. He or she must be responsive to the concerns and needs of the medical staff members and is expected to foster and contribute to a close and mutually beneficial relationship between the medical staff and hospital management.

In addition, the CMO/PE has the responsibility for working with BHDMG and market leadership along with the Provider Leadership Council to help identify and achieve the strategic objectives of BHDMG and BHD. This position works in collaboration to focus on relationship building, operational, clinical and quality management to achieve best results.


The CMO/PE works to develop and enhance systems that coordinate the clinical and professional aspects of medical practice and the goals of quality medical care, creation of policies and procedures that positively affect patient outcomes, physician productivity and patient satisfaction which are paramount to this position.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and Licensures Required:
  1. Graduate of an accredited medical school program.
  2. Currently valid & unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  3. Currently valid & unrestricted DEA registration number.
  4. Eligible at all times to be insured for professional liability insurance.
  5. Board Certified in appropriate specialty.
  6. Minimum of five-ten years of clinical experience.
  7. Leadership Skills including a faculty for conceptual thinking, peer motivation and problem solving.
  8. MBA/MHA preferred.
