Job Description

Health Information Management Specialist – Full‑time Location: Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA Key Responsibilities: The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist is primarily responsible for chart analysis, both quantitative and qualitative. Responsibilities include reviewing medical records for accuracy and completeness, assigning provider deficiencies, ensuring timely completion and regulatory compliance, assisting providers with record completion, validating deficiency resolution, collecting data for regulatory reporting and hospital operations, gathering information from all relevant sources, electronic and paper documentation reconciliation, and providing office support to the HIM Department. Requirements: High School Diploma/Equivalency required; college courses or HIM degree preferred. Previous experience in a HIM department – hospital experience preferred. Prior experience with an electronic medical record system – Meditech preferred. Analytical skills necessary to review and assess documentation for deficiencies in medical records. Strong computer skills and willingness to learn various software applications. Troubleshooting, analytical, and comprehension skills of technical information. Knowledge of HIPAA Privacy & Security rules – keeping PHI confidential and secure. Experience operating scanning hardware, fax machine, photocopier, microfiche, telephone and other basic office equipment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Email, and Internet. Excellent communication (verbal and written), teamwork, and customer service skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Detail‑oriented and capable of multitasking in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing healthcare environment. Flexibility – assignments vary depending on department needs. Knowledge of medical terminology – preferred.
